Japanese casual-wear giant UNIQLO continues to put its money where it’s mouth is. In the wake of devastating wildfires in Europe, the company has donated EU1 million along with 50,000 items of clothing to support affected communities in the Gironde and Var regions of France. The areas have been particularly hard hit and the cash will be split between an agency providing emergency assistance to displaced residents and Sud-Ouest Solidarité, which is supporting firefighters. The move comes on top of UNIQLO’s numerous other community and sustainability initiatives.
Fashion icon Chanel got in ahead of a European Union ruling to announce it will no longer shred unsold goods, instead sending them to L’Atelier des Matières, its own recycling business. It had previously been revealed that Chanel Hong Kong was disposing of massive numbers of discontinued products each month – a statement the company disputed saying its practices have evolved.
Instead, the brand put more than EU50 million into developing Nevold, its hub for circular materials to recycle its unwanted products.
